Importance of good eating

Wondering how to improve your dietary habits? Often, we notice that there's so much to do to modify our dietary habits that we simply give up without trying. Dietitians are of the opinion that it's possible for all to eat healthily. We recommend that you begin to discover what a healthy food consists of. You'll then be able to identify the changes needed. You'll have to split them in a series of small steps, that you can easily do one at the time.

Definition of good eating

Healthy eating is not a question of error, sacrifice or consumption of “bad” food. It's not a question of avoiding "bad" food and eating just the "good" food. Healthy eating is the consumption of the food you like, but with MONDERATION. Healthy eating ensures that the alimentary choices you make in the course of a days, weeks, months and years are not food you choose to eat casually. Healthy eating concerns more than what we consume. It also concerns the time at which we eat and the people the meals are made with. Meals should be moments of rejoicing, sharing and pleasure.

It doesn’t matter who you are and how old you are, when it's a question of nutrition, it’s always important, it's now. Healthy eating favors the growth, the learning and the play of a child. It helps teenagers develop their full potential and have a beautiful appearance. For an adult, healthy eating helps by maintaining a good health so one can still live a fun and happy life. At a more advanced age, healthy eating avoids health problems and helps one live an active and autonomous life during numerous years.

Eat well any time!

We all have our dietary habits, but it's always possible to improve. After all, the better we feed our body, the better it will serve us. To be able to supply a maximum of energy, your body needs you to:

- Distribute your energy contributions by eating at regular intervals and never jumping meals. At the time of a meal, it's better to eat little than nothing at all.

- Fix your meals according to the four groups defined by the Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating. Choose food which pleases you but try new food as well!

Enjoy food, but always think in terms of quantity and quality. Elaborate your meals around foods rich in nourishing elements such as the cereal products, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, thin meats and substitutes. As for food rich in fats and calories, consume them in moderation.

Elaborate a coherent meal plan

You can satisfy your nutritional needs at all meals, even when you eat out. However, this requires a certain preparation. To eat tasty dishes, it's necessary to have a plan. A solid plan does not need to be complicated, but it should be functional. Don't let a loaded agenda prevent you from eating healthily. A coherent plan takes into account all the factors which influence your dietary choices: the satisfaction of nutritional needs, the preferences, the access to recipes, the time of preparation and the food’s quality.
